Wilma Wave (Winter) Schumaker, 88, of Carmi, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 2:13 a.m. at her residence. She was born on January 19, 1927 in Carmi, the daughter of Ernest and Alma (Howell) Winter. Wilma was a graduate of Carmi Township High School and on April 3, 1948 she married Paul Albert Schumaker.
As a single working woman, she was employed at Phillips Petroleum in Carmi, as a secretary and bookkeeper. In later years, Wilma assisted her husband at the family business, Schumaker Insurance Agency in Carmi.
Wilma was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi where she was very active on various church committees and a dedicated member of United Methodist Women.
Wilma was an extremely loving and generous grandmother. She tried to attend as many of her grandchildren's activities as possible. Through the years, she touched many lives by sending letters and cards to family and friends both near and far. She also enjoyed following local sports, as well as supporting the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini teams.
Wilma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Paul Schumaker; three daughters, Teresa Mears of Benton, KY and Carol (Art) Ackerman and Paula (Jeff) Bohleber all of Carmi; eight grandchildren, Leslie Ackerman of St. Louis, MO, Anna Ackerman (Matt) Young of Belleville, Olivia Bohleber of Carmi, Jonathan (Laura) Mears of Arnold, MO, David (Julie) Mears of Troy, Frank Wade Ackerman of Washington, D.C., Arthur Bohleber of Seattle, Washington and Alex Bohleber of Champaign; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Claire and Haley Mears, and Jake and Adam Young; a sister, Doris Stark of Carmi; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Jane Bohleber of Carmi.
Funeral services for Wilma Wave Schumaker, 88, of Carmi, will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Bob McKelvey officiating. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call on Saturday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial gifts may be given in Wilma's name to Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
