William C. "Bill" McKnight, 86, of Crossville passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 5:55 a.m. at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. Bill was born February 7, 1927 in Crossville, IL the son of Fred Randall and Clara Charlotte (Renshaw) McKnight. He married Mary Catherine Heil on January 12, 1946 and she preceded him in death on November 27, 2011.
Bill was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer, working side by side with his wife Mary. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Bill was a member of the Pleasant Union Primitive Baptist Church and the the Carmi VFW Post #3851. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, boating and water skiing.
Bill is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Pat Dartt of Carmi; two grandchildren, Melissa Dartt of Evansville, IN and Justin Dartt of Carmi; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Louise Hammell of Calvin and Ruby Lee and Ray Marks of West Salem; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Heil and his wife Susie and Gene Heil and freind Anna Flowers; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for William C. "Bill" McKnight, 86, of Crossville will be Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Elders Edward Reed and Willie Huffine officiating. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery with Military Rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Dartt Memorial Scholarship Fund and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
