William S. Mattingly, Jr., 77 of Mt. Vernon, died on December 28, 2014 at Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on February 4, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, the son of William Sylvester and Helen E. (Lueder) Mattingly, Sr.
Mr. Mattingly worked for Ingram Barge and Farm Bureau Refinery before his retirement. He served in the National Guard with Battery B. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed watching sports, especially IU Basketball, fishing, playing cards, cookouts and time with family and friends.
He is survived by daughters, Angie Mattingly of Mt. Vernon and Stephanie (Scott) Crumbacher of New Harmony; one grandson, Nick Crumbacher; longtime companion, Jeanette Baggett and her family; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Melanie; brothers, infant, Gary Wayne and Milburn "Shorty" Mattingly.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
