William “Corky” J. Cooney 67, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana died Monday, November 26, 2007 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

William was born July 6, 1940 to the late Frank and Dorothy Cooney in Girardville, Pa. While living in Girardville he attended Lady of the Sacred Heart School. William later moved to Mt. Vernon where he married Mary (Goodwin) in 1981. He worked in the Dietary Department of Deaconess Hospital retiring in 2001 after 15 years of service. William and Mary served as Foster parents for five years with Regional Youth Services of Vanderburgh County. William enjoyed watching movies, listening to music and working with the mentally challenged and loved spending time with his little sheltie, Lassie.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of 26 years

Two sons, Kyle Timothy Cooney of Mt. Vernon, IN and his fiancée, Jennifer Johnson

Two daughters, Angela Pittner of Grand Rapids, MI
Melissa Thorpe of Nashville, TN

One sister, Katherine Martin of Pennsylvania

One brother, Frank T. Cooney of Coatsville, PA

Four grandchildren, Kelsey and Tyler James Cash of Nashville, TN
Jordan and Keisha Pitner of Grand Rapids, MI

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Michael Cooney.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, November 30, 2007 at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 E. 4th Mt. Vernon, Indiana with Reverend Ron Myers officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthews Catholic Church Cemetery.

Friends may call 3 pm until 8 pm, Thursday, November 29, 2007, at the funeral home.
