William Batty, Jr

William Earl "Bill" Batty, Jr., 63, of Carmi passed away at 10:03 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.  He was born in Basin, WY on December 1, 1953 the son of William Earl and Wilma (Harrolle) Batty, Sr.  Bill married Debra Marie Carr on February 19, 1972.  He worked at Browns Feed Store and later worked at Petty-Ray Geophysical Division where he was able to travel the country.  Bill retired as a carpenter with Ted Allen Construction.  He loved to fish, play softball and basketball, working with wood, writing poetry and hanging out with Mike Brown and the gang at the feed store to get a new hat. He would do all he could to visit with family and his good friends Peg and Larry Browning and Frank and Debbie Burnett. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debbie of Carmi;  two sons, Billy Jack Batty of Carmi and Shawn (Stephanie) Batty of Vincennes, IN; daughter, Whitney (Nick Shaffer) Smith of Carmi; three sisters, Connie Burris, Karen (Garrett) Gwaltney and Sheryl A. (Bill) Brown all of Carmi; 14 grandchildren, India, Azia'an, Isaac, Jacob, Jared, Addy, Liam, Tyler, Noah, Haleigh, Zaine, Liberty, Keelan and Makynna and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William Earl Batty, Sr. and Wilma Bradshaw and his brother David Lee Batty.

Funeral services for William Earl "Bill" Batty, Jr., 63, of Carmi will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norris City. Friends may visit on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi to assist with funeral expenses.
