William Ackerman

William C. Ackerman, 87, of Carmi passed away at 3:46 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2016 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was born in White County, IL on February 13, 1929 the son of Willard Frederick and Lula (Ridenour) Ackerman. William married Patsy R. Williams on October 15, 1955. He was a grain farmer and started Tri Valley Irrigation alongside his brother Howard, which was the first irrigation in White County. William served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and then served his community by being a 4-H Leader for the Hawthorne Hustlers. He was a member of the White County Farm Bureau.

William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patsy; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and James Inman of McLeansboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Terri Ackerman of Carmi; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Ackerman of New Haven and Frances Ackerman of New Haven; four grandchildren, Ashley Webber and husband Michael, Josh Ackerman and wife Johanna, Clarissa Ackerman and Lisa Duncan; three great-grandchildren, Devon Ackerman, Justice Duncan and Harrison Ackerman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lula Mae Vinson and Lola Smith; and six brothers, Fred, James, Herbert, Howard, Joseph and E. Wayne Ackerman.

Funeral services for William C. Ackerman, 87, of Carmi will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi with full military honors by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made in William's memory to the White County 4-H Support Committee and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
