Wareny E. Eckles, 93, of Enfield, Illinois, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, Illinois. He was born on August 24, 1929, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Fred and Naomi (Whitehead) Eckles. Warney married Shirley Melvin on February 28, 1981, and she survives. Warney proudly served his country as a paratrooper for the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed his job as a pipeline engineer for Sheehan Construction and Murphy Brothers and often shared stories of his days traveling the country. Warney was a lifelong member of the American Legion and also a member at Springerton Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, Shirley Eckles, Warney is survived by his children, Jerry (Paula) Eckles and Loretta Smith; sister Betty Andreatta; step-daughter Marsha (Raymond) Healy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Warney is preceded in death by his parents, a step-son, Gary Allen, and his siblings Mary Olive Lyne, Ruth Demoss, James Eckles, Caryl Stephens, Helen Frazier, Ernest Eckles, Charles Robert Eckles, Clifford Eckles, Henry Eckles, Francis Tackett, and Doris Wooster.
Funeral services for Warney Eckles will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield, Illinois. Burial will be at Hammack Cemetery in Springerton, Illinois with full military rites by Carmi VFW and American Legion. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until time of service on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Warney’s memory to Springerton Christian Church or Enfield Nursing and Rehab and will be accepted at Stendeback Funeral Home in Enfield, who is in charge of arrangements.
