Wanda Louise Niekamp, 92, of Carmi, passed away peacefully at her home while doing embroidery needlework around 4:00 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2016. She was born on November 9, 1923, which was her parent's tenth anniversary. On September 2, 1951, she married Robert Niekamp, a farmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, her parents, Fred and Inez (Curtis) Deppenmeier, and her sisters, Emma, Beatrice, Frieda, and Norma. She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Don) Garrett and Wilma (Bill) Vernich; grandchildren, Sara (JC) Cline, Kyle Vernich, and Jill Vernich; great-granddaughters, Ava Cline and Ellis Cline; a sister-in-law, Ann Niekamp; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church in Carmi and the Christian Workers Sunday School class, Joy Group senior women's bible study group, and Senior Fellowship. In addition to needlework, Wanda enjoyed reading, watching movies, walking for exercise, cooking, and tending to her flowers and garden.
Funeral services for Wanda Louise Niekamp, 92, of Carmi will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016 at First Christian Church in Carmi with Greg Grant and Joe Skaggs officiating. Burial will be held in Reib Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time at First Christian Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
