Vivian Bayley Shepard, age 102 of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and former resident of Asheville, NC., died May 3, 2014 in Hilton Head, SC., Vivian was born December 21, 1911, in Maunie, IL to the late Elbert Foster Bayley and Annabelle Holland Bayley of Norris City, IL. She graduated from, Ridgway High School, Ridgway, IL class of 1928. Upon Graduation she entered Nursing Training,Walker Hospital, Evansville, IN, class of 1932. She married the late Arthur James Shepard Sr. of Evansville, IN. Vivian and Arthur became Restaurateurs in 1953, beginning with a restaurant in Weaverville, NC, then the Embers in Waynesville, NC along with managing restaurants in Morganton, NC, and Hickory NC.
Vivian is the wife of her late husband Arthur Shepard Sr., and mother of the late Captain, Richard B. (Marsha Henry of Shelbyville, TN) Shepard (USAFA) and her only living son, Arthur James (late Elizabeth Wilkie) Shepard Jr. of Hilton Head Island, SC., She is survived by her Grandsons, Drs. Arthur James (Nicole Petersen) Shepard III, Summerville, SC., Brian Conley (Irma Bedrosian) Shepard PE. of Ypsilanti, MI, and Lt. Colonel Ladd Wilkie (Dagmara Ann Pcion) Shepard, of Hubert, NC, Christopher Scott (Ashlea) Shepard, Murfreesboro, TN, and Shawn Bayley (Kylee) Shepard of Amherst, MA: 9 great grandchildren; Nieces Susie Kinsall, Anita McElroy, Susan Hake, Debbie Rick, and Nephews Larry Bayley and Mike Bayley.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2014 at Union Ridge Cemetery near Norris City. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the Oteen Baptist Church, Oteen, NC or Hospice Care of the Low Country, Palmetto Way, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910. The Padgett and King Mortuary of Forest City, NC is in charge of arrangements and an online guest registry is available at www.padgettking.com. Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City is in charge of local arrangements.
