Virginia Remes

Virginia Belle Midkiff Amos Remes, 84, of Hampton, VA passed away at 4:43 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2016 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. She was born in Philpott, KY on June 13, 1932, the daughter of Leamon and Adela (Hendrix) Midkiff. After graduating high school at 16, she attended Southern Illinois University and the University of Oklahoma. She was married to Bob Amos and had four children. She later married Eugene Marriott Remes, they shared a wonderful life together. Virginia loved traveling, being with her grandchildren, laughing and family. She enjoyed a career at Data Tronics Corporation, Fort Smith, AR and retired at 60. At retirement the City of Fort Smith named a day "Virginia Remes Day" in her honor. She was known to many, participated in the Young Republicans, Sweet Adelines, and The Little Theater. After retirement, she relocated to her hometown, Norris City, IL, to be near her sisters and brother. Later, she moved to Virginia to be with her daughter and grandchildren. She was a loving mother, wonderful grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was most noted for her wit and intellect.

She is survived by a daughter, Julie Ferguson of Hampton, VA; three sisters, Esther Coupal, Dana (Bill) Smith both of Norris City, and Faye (Gary) Thomas of Harrisburg; a brother, Denver (Chako) Midkiff of Kingston, WA; grandchildren, Sara (Amos) Cornwell, Jason Amos, Jessica (Ferguson) Berry, and Evan Ferguson; and eight great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Brian Keith Amos, James Chris Amos and Stephen Lee Amos; grandson, Eric Lane Ferguson; and five brothers, David, Ernest, Ozna, Thomas and James Midkiff.

Funeral Services for Virginia (Midkiff) Remes, 84, of Hampton, VA will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Norris City. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Campbell Funeral Home.
