Virginia Crawford

Virginia “Ginny” Crawford, 88 of Mt. Vernon died Tuesday afternoon March 24, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born on January 25, 1921 in Harrison County, MO, the daughter of James E. and Coyle (Leggett) DeWitt. She married Dellas L. Crawford on November 22, 1941 in St. Louis. Dellas preceded her in death on March 17, 2001.


Mrs. Crawford was a beautician at Estelle’s Beauty Shop for over thirty years and more recently at Cloverleaf Beauty Shop. She attended the First Christian Church of Mt. Vernon. Ginny was a homemaker and created many heirloom quilts given to family and friends. Ginny loved children, especially her grandchildren, whom she and Dellas spent much time with.


She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Joyce Kueber Crawford and Jerry and Sheri Crawford, all of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Erin Crawford and her significant other, Chad Gamblin, and Jeremy Crawford; two great-grandchildren, Logan Crawford and Kailie Gamblin; five sisters, D.K. Preutz of Houston, TX, Lois Hatter of Houston, TX, Frankie Matocha of Pearland, TX, Carol Eaves of Pasadena, TX, and Joyce Harley of Indianapolis, IN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Oscar, Jimmy, Bobby, and Wayne DeWitt and two sisters, Dorothy Taylor and Doris Jackson.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will be in Bethsaida Cemetery near Stewartsville, IN.
