Virgil Phillips

Virgil Phillips, age 90 of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday afternoon September 9, 2010 at the Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon. He was born October 8, 1919 in Barlow, KY the son of Lee and Hettie (Holder) Phillips. He married Mary Tinsley in 1951.


Virgil was a retired deck hand at Mt. Vernon Barge Service.


He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Cheryl Phillips of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Ryan and Andrea Phillips; and one great-grandson, Isiah Phillips. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary on October 16, 2009; two brothers and three sisters.


A private family burial will be held at Bellefontaince Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at austinfuneralhome.com
