Violet Smith

May 2, 1926 — April 17, 2016


Violet Fern Smith, age 90, of Carmi, passed away Saturday afternoon April 16, 2016 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born on May 02, 1926 in Springerton, Illinois, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Pearl (Siefried) York. Violet married James Nobel Smith  May 15, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganfield Kentucky. Violet graduated Associate Valedictorian from Enfield High School.

Violet was the best mother and grandmother and asked about all of her family daily.

Violet is  survived by a son, James David Smith,  brother Melvin (Betty) York, seven grandchildren;   Tammy R. Smith, Chad P. Smith, Rafe Smith, Ryan Smith,  Abraham Smith, Nathan Smith, Martha Smith; ten  great grandchildren; Haley Smith, Taylor Pate, Sydney Smith, Courtney Smith, Logan Smith, Tori Smith, Bella Smith, Jaycee Smith, Canon Smith, Levi Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Noble 1998 ; a son Mark 2005; two sister; Bernadine Phillips, Betty Lou Clark; a brother Charles Ray York, half brother  Clayton R. York; and three half sisters; Louise Melvin,  Maxine Oliver, Beulah  Gentry.

Services will be Noon Sunday April 17, 2016 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in White County Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m until time of services.

In  lieu of flowers the family request memorial  contributions be made  to: The Guardian Center  for abused children in Carmi and will be accepted  by her Son David P.O. Box 279  Carmi, IL 62821
