Viola Marie (Mabry) Farmer was born February 3, 1913 in Evansville , IN. She was the daughter the late John William (Jack) and Elizabeth (Gates) Mabry. She passed away on Saturday, April 17, 1910 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center .
She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church . She had a beautiful singing voice and she loved to play the piano. She enjoyed dancing on Saturday evenings at the Owls in Evansville . She was an avid card player.
During WWII she worked at the Chrysler Ammunition Factory making bullets for the war effort. She worked at Fendrick’s Cigar Factory until it closed. She then worked for Economy Food Centers and Wesselman’s Grocery Stores. She retired in 1983.
She was preceeed in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert E. Farmer in 1980. Her son William Glenn Farmer was killed in the Korean War in 1950. Her son-in-law, Howard Roberts also preceded her in death in 1987. All of her sisters, Mabel Strott, Henrietta Eckardt and Bertha Eckardt also preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Henry Vanderburgh Chapter of the DAR.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Farmer) Roberts of Evansville, her granddaughter Makaila (Roberts) Blackburn and her husband Wayne Blackburn of Mt Vernon. Also surviving is one great granddaughter, Whitney Blackburn and one great-great granddaughter. She also has one neice, Erma Koch.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday April 19, 2010 at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon, IN with burial in Sunset Memorial Park at Evansville.
