Vertis Knight

Biography

Vertis Knight, age 74, of Grayville, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at his home. He was born March 30, 1938, in Edwards County, the son of Royal T. and Mary (Landingham) Knight. He married Tamara Pate on July 24, 1973, and she preceded him in death on July 2, 2005.

Vertis loved the country life, spending time with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed raising and showing simmetal cattle with his nephew, Woody Woodrow.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Tara Knight and Jason and Renee Knight, all of Grayville, and Jordan Watson of MO; a daughter, Emily Knight of Grayville; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Ronald Knight, Loyal and Gaye Knight, Royal and Eva Knight, Bertis and Sandra Knight, and Garrel and Judy Knight; two sisters, Betty Michels, and Vaneta Jones; five grandchildren, Allison Knight, Olivia Knight, Kodi Knight, Macy Knight, Aiden Koontz, and Lexi Thomason; and his fiancee, Mollye Wilhite.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tamara; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edward and Ruth Knight, Arleta Knight, and Wayne and Gwen Knight; four sisters and three brothers-in-law,Viola and Leo Hawkins, Wilma and Woody Woodrow, Jerrod Michels, and Ladonna and Lyndon Crackel

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Ridge Church Cemetery in Grayville. Memorials may be made to the family, in care of Emily Knight, and will be accepted at the funeral home. Arrangements provided by Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi.
