Verla Jean Duckworth, age 81, of Springerton, born August 7, 1931, in McLeansboro, IL, to Gifford and Euna Nelson, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, at Way-Fair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield. She is the beloved wife of the late Clyde “Bill” Duckworth and loving partner to Leonard Barger.
She is the mother of Steve Duckworth (Doris) and Brenda Peth (Dennis); loving grandmother to Ryan Peth (Yvonne), Jonathan Duckworth (Cristal) and Sterling Duckworth (Jessica); grat-grandmother to Madison Peth, Nathan, Coltin, and Caleb Duckworth, and a new baby girl; four step-great-granddaughters, Katelyn Haney, Kassidy Webb, Nicole Baldridge, and Coryelle White; sister of Roslie Lovan (James), Charles Nelson (Lindy), Doris Vaughn (Ed), Ruth Fox (George), Dallas Nelson (Linda), and Ralph Nelson (and the late Lodema); sister-n-law to Charles Duckworth (Doris), and the late Jo Helen Barger; daughter-in-law to the late Rufus and Vern Lee Duckworth; dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Verla worked at several jobs, including the Box Factory in Carmi, Elders Shirt Factory in McLeansboro, R & B Mfg. Co. in Enfield, Fairfield Garment Co. in Fairfield, Johnny’s Sewing Factory in Albion, Cupboard Restaurant in McLeansboro, and Carmi Skilled Care in Carmi. She is a member of the Ashland Christian Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield with Pastor Braden Willis officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in Hammack Cemetery in Springerton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashland Christian Church, Macular Degeneration Society, Kidney Foundation, or American Cancer Society.
