Longtime Norris City businesswoman, Verla Lillian (Parker) Bartley, 79, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at her residence. She was born May 10, 1933 in Carmi, IL, the daughter of Lucille (Parker) Allison. Verla married Lee Franklin Burnett in 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1971. She married Dennis Bartley on August 28, 1973. Verla and Dennis owned and operated Bartley Sunoco in Norris City for 34 years.
Verla is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dennis of Norris City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diana Puntney of Carmi and Darling Davine and Jeff Staley of Norris City; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Deborah Burnett of Winslow, IN, Frankie and Debbie Burnett of Carmi and Lee Franklin and Shelly Burnett, Jr. of Peru, IN; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ethel and Jack Ellis of Decatur, Phyllis and Larry Jewitt of Argenta, IL, Frances Morssie of Lebanon, OH and Fern Meece of Somerset, KY; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Terri Allison of Albion 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnye Allison.
Private family funeral services for Verla Lillian (Parker) Bartley, 79, of Norris City, where held Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with the Rev. William Jackson officiating. Casket bearers were: Dennis Bartley, David Burnett, Frankie Burnett, Jeremy Burnett, Lee F. Burnett, Jr., Leevi Burnett and Scott Burnett. Musical selections of "Amen" by Chris August, "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis and "Burning Love" by Elvis Presley were played. Entombment was in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi.
