Vergene Gettings

Vergene "Gene" Gettings, 91, of Carmi passed away at 1:40 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi.  She was born July 12, 1926 in Burnt Prairie, IL the daughter of Joseph Don and Maggie (King) Smith.   She worked as a bookkeeper and held various secretarial positions.

Gene is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and John Cousins of Three Rivers, MI; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lenn and Mary Jamerson of Lawrenceville, and Don Jamerson of Everett, WA; six grandchildren, Chip Jamerson, Barbie Beckham, Dan Jamerson, Bryan Jamerson, Darlene O'Connor, and Melinda Kimble; two brothers and five sisters-in-law, Ted and Ruth Ann Smith of Carmi, and Bill and Dana Smith of Norris City, Gail Smith of Baytown, TX, Len Rose Thompson of Grayville, and Mildred Jamerson of Carmi; her step-children, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tom Hamilton and Al Gettings; a grandson, Rick Jamerson, and a granddaughter, Lisa Pou.

Funeral services for Vergene "Gene" Gettings, 91, of Carmi, will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Burnt Prairie.  Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of the arrangements.
