Biography

Vera Imogene Jones, age 93, of Mt. Vernon, IN, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013, at Bethel Manor Nursing Home in Evansville. She was born June 22, 1919, in Grayville, IL, the daughter of Charles H. and Nancy Vera (Clay) Mason. She married Andrew Elmo Jones and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1987.

She worked at the Evansville P.N. Hirsch for many years. She also worked in the Mt Vernon High School Cafeteria. She helped care the elderly as a sitter with Posey County Nursing.

She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Morris Wayne and Judy Jones of Rapid City, SD and a daughter-in-law, Janice Jones of Evansville, IN; five grandchildren, Donna Becker, Kristina Bender, Sandra Barrett, Brenda Hass, and Brian Jones; great-grandsons, Justin Becker and Trevor Hass; great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Alyssa Foster, Emily Hass and Maggie Bender; a sister-in-law, Nancy Mason of Warner Robbins, GA; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew Elmo Jones; a son, Ellis “Ray” Jones; a daughter and son-in-law, La Rita and Robert Barrett; two brothers, Charles J. and Morris D. Mason; a half-sister, Eleanor Zenthoffer; and a granddaughter, Sheryl Ann Jones.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 2:00 pm, at Stendeback Family Funeral Home, 1330 E. 4th Street, Mt. Vernon, IN. Pastor Derrick Ousley will officiate. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
