Vera Anderson

Vera L. Anderson, 88, of Carmi, passed away at 10:29 p.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Wayne County, IL., on December 8, 1928 the daughter of Elza and Elsa (Mayo) Mattox. Vera married Leslie Charles Anderson on September 10, 1945. She had formerly worked as the bookkeeper and office manager for the City of Carmi, Light and Water office. Later she worked for Tracy Cunningham before going to work for Rector and Stone. Vera retired at the age of 80 from Goff and Pruitt as a bookkeeper and office manager. She was a former member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.

Vera is survived by her husband Less Anderson; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Curtis Canady of Groveland, FL; five grandchildren, Mike Canady, Kevin "Pondo" Canady, Allen, Brian and Tony Anderson; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elza and Elsa Mattox,  son, Myrel R. Anderson, daughter-in-law, Ramona "Jeanie" Anderson and five siblings, Ivan, Garrett, Albert, Doris and Elaine.

A graveside memorial service for Vera L. Anderson will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 8, 2017 at White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.
