Velma Ellis

Velma Ellis, age 90, of Enfield, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center. She was born May 15, 1922, in Mill Shoals TWP, the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Fulford) Gwaltney. She married Charles Vernis Ellis on December 31, 1938 and he preceded her in death May 1, 1996.

Velma was a homemaker and a member of the Springerton Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Vereal E. and Marrianne Ellis of Yuma, AZ, and Glendall L. and Mary Jean Ellis of Enfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Bill Renshaw of Enfield, and Sharon and Joe Ralph of Owensborough, KY; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mildred Gwaltney of Carmi; a sister, Vercie Daniel; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Vernice; a sister, Viola Puckett; and a grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 11:00 am, at Springerton Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of service in the church. Pastor Ron Lamp will officiate. Burial will be in Kitty Sweetin Cemetery. Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Enfield is providing the arrangements.
