Velma L. Ackerman, 83 of Carmi, passed away Saturday morning, February 21, 2015 at Enfield
Healthcare.
She was born on July 6, 1931 in St. Louis, OK, the daughter of Riley Earl and Ada Lea (Williams) Davidson. She married Donald Wayne Ackerman on April 14, 1950 in Grayville, and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1971.
Velma had been a bookkeeper at O’Daniel Trucking. She was a member and past president of the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries and Home Extension. She loved her family. She was a long time member of the Carmi Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice & David Cross of Carmi and Karen L. & Chad Shelton of LaCentre, KY; three grandchildren, Shawn (Melissa) Cross, Jessica (Jonathon) West and Jason Cross; five great-grandchildren, Codi, Jesse and Anya Cross, Alex and Carolyn West; a sister, Vivian J. Craig of Mt. Vernon, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Earl Ray Davidson and an infant sister, Mabel Louise Davidson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Carmi with burial in Kuykendall Cemetery.
