Tomas "Daddy-O" Ortega, 77 of Evansville, passed away Thursday March 5, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born December 24, 1937 in Questa, N. Mexico, the son of Alfonso and Carmelita Ortega. He married Brenda Carroll on June 4, 1994.
Tomas was a chef for 29 years at the Executive Inn in Evansville and for 9 1/2 years at the Casino Aztar. He was a veteran of the United States Army and attended Methodist Temple Church in Evansville.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; one son, Garth Beatty of KY; one daughter, Lynn Wilson of Whitehouse, TN; two grandchildren, Nate Midkiff and Ashley Ray; five great-grandchildren, Bailey Midkiff, Brianna, Branson and Bella Ray, and Ashlynn Midkiff. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jose Ortega and three sisters, Sally Ranjel, Loyola and Christina Ortega.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday March 9, 2015 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St. Mt. Vernon, with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Owen Dunn Post #5.
