Thomas William Wagner, 69, of Carmi, IL, passed away July 19th, 2023 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Thomas was born May 22nd, 1954 in Carmi, IL, the son of James and Thelma (Kennedy) Wagner. Tom was a US Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. His career spanned several trades from working in the soda ash mines in Wyoming, offshore drilling in Louisiana, to working construction locally. He drove a truck for Schneider Trucking in his later years until he was forced to retire around 2011 due to ongoing health issues. Tom was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Tom especially loved spending time with his favorite and only nephew, Richard, passing on all of his outdoor knowledge to him.
Survivors include his sisters, Marcia (Bruce) Hollingsworth and Marilyn Myers. Nephew Richard (Kim) Hollingsworth, Nieces, Tabitha (Derek) Storms and Dana (Brent) Bretz. Great nieces and great nephews, Hannah, Hailey, and Hayden Hollingsworth, Britton Storms, Mitchell and Ella Bretz. His close friends and true angels, Jeff Attebury, Brody Coy, Nancy Riggs, and Randy Questell.
A celebration of life service for Tom Wagner will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Family and friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
