Susie Hayes Heil, 82, of Carmi, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017, at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. Born June 16, 1935 in White County, Il, she was married to Glenn W. Hayes from May 1, 1955 until his death on April 9, 1996. She married Wayne Heil on September 25, 1999.

Susie received a bachelor and masters degree from the University of Illinois. She was an Associate Professor of Education at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY, until retirement.

Susie is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Carmi; son, Thomas William Hayes of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Deborah Turner of Atlanta, GA; brother, John Allen (LeeAnn) Hodgson of Hume, IL; sister, Ann (Jerome) Lepinski of Waunakee, WI; two stepsons, Dennis (Melanie) Heil of Carmi, IL and Doug (Debbie) Heil of Harrisburg, IL; stepdaughter, Rhonda (Gene) Fearday of Effingham, IL; three grandchildren, Jessica, Christine, and Julia Turner and several step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Mary Helen (Ridenour) Hodgson and a brother William Joseph Hodgson.



Visitation for Susie will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, IL from 11 am to 1 pm, with funeral services beginning at 1 pm. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Grayville, IL following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Susie's memory to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main Street, Carmi, Il 62821.
