Myrna “Sue” Higginson, 79 of Carmi, cherished wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cairo, Illinois on November 5, 1940 to John and Mary (Churchill) Mathis. Sue married William R. “Bill” Higginson on November 8, 1988. She worked as a secretary for various employers including Carmi Hospital, Harmon Oil Service and most recently retired from George Mitchell Drilling. Sue enjoyed painting with the Artistic Ladies, going to the “boat” with her good friends, listening to music and most importantly she loved taking care of her family.
Sue is survived by her husband of 31 years, Bill; mother, Mary Young; daughter, Myra (Mark) Hillyard of Carmi; three sons, Jeff Hamblin of Fort Branch, IN, Rick (Misty) Higginson of Edmond, OK and David (Missy) Higginson of Carmi; brother Clifford (Rita) Mathis of Marble Hill, MO; sister, Anita (Pat) Condon of Concord, CA; eight grandchildren, Katie (Kyle) Rynkiewich, Kristie (Clay) Hoskins, Jake Higginson, Samantha Higginson, Lauren Higginson, Paige (Jeff) Davis, Andi Anderson and Dan Anderson; three great grandchildren, Reece and Reed Rynkiewich and Gigi Davis. She was preceded in death by her father, John Mathis and a brother, Johnny Mathis.
Funeral services for Sue Higginson will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Sue’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
