Shirley Stokes

Shirley A. Stokes, 72, of Carmi passed away at 3:40 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born on November 13, 1941 in Carmi, IL the daughter of Rayfield and Leona (Stovall) McLain. Shirley married Herbert Bostic on August 6, 1959 and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1985. She later married Leroy Stokes and he also preceded her in death. She had worked as a CNA at Wabash Christian Retirement Center.

Shirley is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda Prior of Carmi, Sandi and Fred Leuellen of McLeansboro and Carol Ann and Bill Lee of Grand Rivers, KY; a sister and brother-in-law, Alberta and Ronnie Garlick of Norris City; two brothers, Robert "Jitter" McLain of Carmi and Elvis Riley of Harrisburg; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Bostic and a granddaughter, Cheyenne Hise.

Funeral Services for Shirley A. Stokes, 72, of Carmi will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. William Jackson officiating. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
