Sandra Kay Mecum Knight, 81, of Carmi, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Wabash Senior Living. She was born on April 4, 1943, in Norris City, IL, the daughter of Marion Earl and Louise Jannel (Wooten) Henson. Sandra married Franklin D. Mecum in 1960 in Norris City, and together they shared 42 years of marriage before his passing on December 2, 2002. She later married Bertis G. Knight in 2005, in Kentucky and together they shared over 15 years of marriage before his passing on July 13, 2021. Sandra spent her career serving others while working as a nurse. She attended Trinity Assembly of God and assisted in the ministries at Lonesome Roads and also served in jail ministry locally. She shared Jesus and His love everywhere that she went.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Tom) Poole, Franklin D. Mecum Jr. Becky (Steven) Calderman and Regina (Doug) Stricklin; grandchildren, Jacob Poole, Joshua (Melissa) Owen, Megan Mecum, Valerie Reum, Jared (Holly) Stricklin, Grant Stricklin, Clark Calderman, Lucinda Calderman and Cassandra Kohlhouse; great-grandchildren, Micah Owen, Leah Owen, Mei-Lin Reum, Nathan Reum, Lila Reum, Daniel Reum, Corrine Caldermin and Zander Calderman. A sister Martha West and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband’s Franklin Mecum and Bertis Knight, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise (Jan) Jannelle Mecum, an infant granddaughter Sandra Louise and her siblings, Arthur Bradshaw, Don Henson, Donna Jean Townsend, Ray Henson and Bill Henson.
Funeral Services for Sandra Kay Mecum Knight will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with burial following immediately at Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi. Family and Friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sandra’s memory to Lonesome Road Ministries and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home who is in charge of the arrangements.
