Russell L. Guth, 80 of Smith Mills, KY and formerly of Mt. Vernon, IN died Wednesday evening, July 16, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. He was born on March 7, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, IN, the son of Louis E. and Matilda (Schreiber) Guth. He married Dorothy Hanmore on October 17, 1958 in Carmi, IL and she survives.
Mr. Guth had worked as a construction worker and in the oil fields. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Kentucky Masons, VFW, American Legion and Moose. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Eagles. He belonged to the Methodist Church in Smith Mills.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Erma Guth of Indianapolis, IN and Jerold and Viola Guth of Mt. Vernon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen and Malcolm Kessler and Valerie Strupp, all of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Owen Dunn Post. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be left at Austinfuneralhome.com.
