Roy F. McCord, 81, of Carmi passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was born May 16, 1943 in Makanda, IL the son of Frank and Helen (Moore) McCord. Roy faithfully served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War for which he was awarded a Silver Star and Purple Heart. Roy has worked as a truck driver for Scott Lad and later Brown's Feed. He loved to hunt and was a member of the Swift Boat Sailor Association.
Roy is survived by his three children, Tammi (Jason) Crossett of Cadiz, KY, Amy McCord of Carmi and Michael McCord of Evansville, IN; a sister, Kay McCord of Houston, TX; and five grandchildren, Autumn Rapp, Trenton Belford, and Revan, Declan and Olive McCord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank McCord and Helen Wise, a son, Roy McCord, Jr., and two sisters, Geneva James and Evelyn Spencer.
A Joint graveside memorial service and burial of ashes for Donna McCord and Roy McCord will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2024 in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi with military honors by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. A gathering will immediately follow at the Carmi Elks at noon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi or mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821.
