Roy Glendale "Glen" Lack, 80, of Carmi, IL, died Thursday morning, June 11, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, IN. Glen was born May 25, 1935, in Osage County, OK, the son of Comal and Bonnie (Matlock) Lack. He spent his early childhood years in Idaho and Arkansas and later moved to Illinois, where he graduated high school in Norris City.
Glen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Miner) LackI� daughter, Brenda Lack, Carmi, daughter and son-A�in-law, Ron and Glenda (Lack) O'Neal, Maineville, OHI� one grandson, Glennon "Bryke" O'Neal, Carlsbad, CAI� brother Vearl Lack, Prescott Valley, AZI� sisters, Joyce Hillyard, Carmi, and Linda Zentner, Minneapolis MNI� and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Lonnie "Bud" Lack and two infant brothers.
He retired as an independent driller after more than 50 years in the gas and oil industry; beginning at age 24, as the youngest driller for Kirk Drilling in Carmi. He then followed in his father's footsteps with Texas Eastern, moving his wife and young daughters to Holbrook and Marietta, PA. Glen returned to IL in the 1960's where he owned and operated Lack's DX Service Station in Carmi and Ashland Oil Bulk Plant in Grayville.
Glen loved outdoor activities and enjoyed hunting. His hobbies included restoring classic cars and he was an avid reader, sometimes reading as many as 25 books a week.
Visitation is at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. The Omaha General Baptist Church will host a dinner at the Farm Bureau Building for family members and friends following the service.
To honor his giving nature, the family has established the Glen Lack Memorial Fund. Donations will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home or First Bank, 201 E. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821. Funds will be used to meet the basic needs of students in the Carmi -White Co School District, enabling them to stay in school and complete their high school education.
