Roy D. Barnes, 91 of New Harmony, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. He was born on January 5, 1926 in Dalton, Kentucky, the son of Paul R. and Edna E. (Woods) Barnes.
He married Norma Joyce Key and she preceded him in death after 65 years of marriage. He then married Thelma Barrett on May 9, 2012 in Winslow, IN and she survives.
Mr. Barnes was a welder and retired from Babcock & Wilcox. He was a member of the New Harmony and Mt. Vernon American Legion. He attended the Pentecostal Church in Mt. Vernon. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran.
In addition to his wife, Thelma, he is survived by two sons, Rick (Nancy) Barnes and Donald Barnes, of Winslow; daughter, Tammy (Michael) Hartman, of Winslow; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Terry ( Betty) Barnes and Elmer (Sylvia) Barnes of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by brothers, Leslie and Paul and sisters, Billie Lou, Loretta, Ruby and Imogene.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Black Cemetery, with Military Rites. Memorials may be given to Riley Childrens Hospital and will be collected at the funeral home.
