Roger Kent Stump, 66, of Evansville, IN, died at 8:30 PM, Saturday, April 24, 2004 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Roger was born December 9, 1937 in Grantsville, West Virginia son of Roy J. and Gertrude (Robinson) Stump. Roger graduated from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a Chemical Engineer/Project Manager with GE Plastics in Mt. Vernon, IN retiring in 1994 after 35 years. After retiring from GE he was a Chemical Engineer/Project Manager for Lockwood Greene Engineering in Carmel, IN until 2003 and was currently a Chemical Engineer/Project Manager with Dynamic Engineering Design in Indianapolis. Roger retired from the Army Reserve at the rank of Lieutenant Col. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association in Carmel, IN and the American Legion in Indianapolis. Roger was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Carmel, IN and was formerly a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Roger was a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge # 40 in Grantsville, WV, Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, and Murat Shrine in Indianapolis where he was a member of the Murat Temple Chanters. He is also a member of the General Thomas Posey Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge #277. Roger was also involved in the Tri-State Men’s Cursillo and Tres Dias and a Past Board Member of the American Cancer Society. Roger was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying and sailing.
Roger is survived by his wife Karen Kay (Hughes) Bauer Stump of Evansville, son, Scott W. Stump and his wife Milessa of Pittsburgh, PA, daughters, Karen Baker and her husband Allan and Yulonda Schutz and her husband Alan of Mt. Vernon, step-daughters, KaLee Vogel and her husband Deke of Mt. Vernon and Denyse Bauer of Evansville and Debora Bottoms and her husband Jeff of Evansville, his sister, Judy Bonser of Parkersburg, WV and a niece, Kelly Offenberger also of Parkersburg, Nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren also survive
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Austin Funeral Home 1330 East Fourth Street in Mt. Vernon, IN., burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, IN with military rites. Friends may call from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Austin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Shriner Children’s Hospital.
