Roger Dale Barnes, 56 of Mt. Vernon, IN died early Friday morning October 2,
2009. He was born on December 1, 1952 in Evansville, IN the son of Paul Junior and
Lola Virginia (Strickland) Barnes. He married Lorelei Fuchs on September 9, 1989 at
the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon and she survives.
Mr. Barnes was employed at Country Mark Refinery as a Production Supervisor.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran. He belonged to the Mt. Vernon American Legion Owen
Dunn Post #5; was a member of the West Side Sportsman’s Club in Evansville and a
member of the Conservation Club in Mt. Vernon. He was Co-Owner of Community
Martial Arts of Mt. Vernon and Co-Owner of Hoosier Rent to Own. He was a Grand
Master 8th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and the Founder of Sun Do Won Tae
Kwon Do. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Lorelei; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Jeramie Scott and Joanna Barnes of Columbus, IN and Jeffrey Pete and Jennifer Barnes of Mt. Vernon, IN; one daughter, Shalena Barnes of Mt. Vernon, IN; eight grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Darlene Barnes and Roy
and Esther Barnes and one sister, Linda King, all of Mt. Vernon, IN; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the
Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 4-8
p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Black Cemetery.
Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5. On-line
