Robert Austin Boyd, 90, of Norris City, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN. He was born in Norris City, IL on August 14, 1926, the son of Leland and Hallie (Austin) Boyd. Austin married Vera Altha Myres in 1957 and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2016. Austin worked for Texas Eastern Transmission Corp for 36 years most of which was in New Lexington, Ohio. He retired back to Norris City where he farmed for the past 30 years. Austin served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Norris City American Legion Post #109 and a 60 year masonic member of the Norris City May Lodge #718.
Austin is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Garry and Ellen Boyd of Lancaster, OH, Malcolm and Dianne Boyd of New Lexington, OH and Bill Hall of Bexley, OH; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Kris) Luckhaupt, Julie (Pat) Messerly, Kevin (Carrie) Boyd; Dustin (Shawna) Boyd, Tyler Boyd, Macey Boyd, Shawn (Ken) Grundey, Russell (Amy) Hall; Jeremy (Natalie) Hall and Annie Hall; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Mutman of Springfield, IL.
Austin was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, and a son, Chester Hall.
Funeral services for Robert Austin Boyd will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery will full military rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City where Masonic Rites will be performed by May Lodge #718 at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Austin's memory to Shriners Hospital and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
