Robert E. Orth, 55, of Mt. Vernon, died at 9:15 PM, Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at his home. He was born November 14, 1949 in Evansville, Indiana. He was a past member of the Elks and Salem United Church of Christ and had been attending Point Township Church of The Nazarene. He retired from General Electric in 1999 after 21 years of service. He was a farmer prior to that. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing, but spending time with family was most important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Mary Louise (Renschler) Orth, and sister, Theresa Joan Orth in 1978, and a nephew, Larry Orth, Jr.
Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 33 years, Vickie Lea (DeKemper) Orth. They were wed July 1, 1972. Also surviving are his daughters, Angela (Orth) Spindler and her husband Jason and Amelia (Orth) Sharber and her husband Kyle, all of Mt. Vernon; his sister Agnes (Orth) York and her husband Paul of Evansville; a brother Larry Orth and his wife, Ruth of Mt Vernon; two aunts, Helen June (Renschler) Cavanah and Dorothy Orth; one uncle, Melvin Renschler and his wife Charlotte. Also surviving are nieces, Shawn Robey and Ivy and Ashley DeKemper; nephews, Andrew and Alex DeKemper; a great niece, Angel Hillenbrand and two grandsons, Asa William and Abel Robert Spindler. He also leaves behind countless friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. Troy DeKemper and Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, April 29 and from 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in honor of his daughter Angela.
