Robert W. Henderson, Sr., 81, of Mt. Vernon, died at 9:20AM, Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 3, 1924 in Chester, West Virginia son of Darl and Elizabeth (Kern) Henderson. He was a US Army WW II Veteran and a lifetime member of the Owen Dunn American Legion Post #5 in Mt. Vernon. Robert moved to Mt. Vernon in 1963 with Babcock & Wilcox where he was a supervisor. He went to work for GE Plastics in Mt. Vernon as a Technician when B & W closed and retired from GE in 1989. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Henderson, May, 9, 2005, a brother Bud Henderson and a sister, Verna Mae Crutchley.
He is survived by sons, Darl L. Henderson and his wife Sherry, Gerald A. Henderson and his wife, Brenda, and Robert W. Hendrson, Jr. and his wife Kay all of Mt. Vernon and Larry Henderson and his wife Vicki of Massillon, Ohio; a brother, Norman Henderson of Wooster, Ohio and two sisters, Glenda Bloom of Shenandoah Valley, VA and Mildred Grimm of Alliance, Ohio. 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 24, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street in Mt. Vernon with military rites. Rev. Dallas Robinson will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
