Robert E. Bartley, Sr., 71, of Carmi passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:55 am at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. Robert was born April 7, 1940 in Omaha, IL the son of James Webber and Edith Murl (Ellison) Bartley. He was self employed and had worked as a maintenance man at Diary Queen. Robert was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi and most recently attended the chapel services at Wabash Christian Retirement Center.
Robert never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Visiting with friends and family was always enjoyed by him.
Robert is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Donnie Douthitt of Emma and Shannon Lyn and Mike Henson of Carmi; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Darlene Bartley, Jr. of Carmi; a sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Richard Durbin of McLeansboro; five brothers and sisters-in-law, James Elvis and Alva Bartley of Omaha, Paul and Janet Bartley of Eldorado, Dennis and Verla Bartley of Norris City, Ernest and Elaine Bartley and Gary Lee and Betty Bartley all of Carmi; two sisters-in-law, Lawana Bartley and Lanita Bartley; six grandchildren, Ryan and Ryse Douthitt, Kody and Riley Henson and Hannah and Dalton Bartley; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Anne and Serenity Faith Henson and is former wife of 40 years, Sandra Kay.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Ray and Merle B, Bartley.
Funeral Services for Robert E. Bartley, Sr., 71, of Carmi will be Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 10:00 am at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Monday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the Wabash Christian Retirement Center Chapel Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
