Richard Pleasant, 77, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 12:10 a.m. at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. He was born June 25, 1937 in Decatur, IL the son of Howard K. and Ruby Marie (Cole) Pleasant. Richard married Doris Evelyn Johnson on May 9, 1959 and she preceded him in death on April 5, 2013. He was a 1955 graduate of Norris City-Omaha High School and a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Richard worked as a maintenance mechanic for the Paducah Housing Authority from 1969 until his retirement in 2002. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid golfer and member of Gambit Golf Club in Vienna where he hit three Hole in Ones in one week.
Richard is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Larry Hagood of Ft. Thomas, KY and Kim and Chuck Meier of Paducah, KY; a brother, Larry Pleasant of Goreville, IL; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a step-brother, Rue Gene Starr.
Graveside services for Richard Pleasant, 77, of Paducah will be at 4:00 pm, Sunday, August 17, 2014 in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norris City, IL with military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Friends may call at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City on Sunday from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to Lourdes Hospice c/o Lourdes Foundation, 1530 Lone Oak Rd., Paducah, KY 42003 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 201 E. Main St., Norris City, IL 62869
