Rebecca O'Neal

Rebecca Ellen O'Neal, 90 of Carmi, passed away at 11:25 p.m.,  Monday, April 17, 2017 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. She was born October 7, 1926 in Carmi, the daughter of Frank and Nola Katherine (Hargrave) Nelson. Rebecca married John O'Neal in 1974 and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1984. She was a cook at the VFW. Rebecca was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, active in Relay for Life, and supported the Dravet Syndrome Foundation.

She is survived a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Randy) Buchanan of Carmi; a son, Ronald Beck of Carmi; two brothers, Wayne (Fran) Nelson and Hal Ray Nelson both of Carmi; sister, Pat (Jerry) Woodrow of Carmi; two sons-in-law, Jack Lamont of Carmi and Donald Hiebert of Norris City; nine grandchildren, Megan (Jeremy) Mercer, Amy (Jason) Weasel, Chris (Amy) Buchanan, Becky (David) Wheeler, Doug (Kate) Hiebert, Scott (Tonia) Lamont, Kevin Savage, Kelly (Sheila) Savage and Jerry (Donna) Lamont and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Rebecca was preceded in death by three daughters, Donna Rose, Jeannie Hiebert, and Connie Lamont; a brother, Edward (Phyllis) Nelson; and a sister, Lela (Ernie) Henson.

Funeral services for Rebecca O'Neal, 90, of Carmi, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Jerry Woodrow officiating. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rebecca's memory to Dravet Syndrome Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 3026, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
