Raymond C. Gross, 78 of Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday September 28, 2014 at his home. He was born March 31, 1936 at Mt. Vernon, the son of Paul and Mary (Walker) Gross. He married Phyllis June Cameron on September 3, 1960 in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him in death on July 23, 2012.
Raymond had worked at Whirlpool. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard for many years. He enjoyed Hunting, Camping and Story Telling.
He is survived by his sons, Kenny (Jodi) Gross, Charles (Michele) Gross and Michael Gross all of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Paula (Roland) Briscoe of Wadesville and Barbara (Terry) Wilkinson of McLeansboro, IL; 10 grandchildren, Kelci Pursley, Kera Gross, Bree Briscoe, Terri Lynn, Erica and Andrew Wilkinson, Chase Gross, Celena and Dalton Gross and Lance Carlyle; 2 great-grandchildren, Ace and Adi; 4 brothers, George (Lana) Gross of Chicago, Paul (Sarah) Gross, Phillip (Toni Ann) Gross all of Mt. Vernon and Denny Gross of Louisville, KY; sister, Patty (Eddie) Jolley of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 1 brother, Tom Gross.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday October 3, 2014 at the Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday. Military rites will be conducted by Owen Dunn Post #5. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or a donation of food to the family.
