Longtime White County Farmer, Ray W. Winter, 78, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. He was born at home in rural White County on March 25, 1946 the son of Wilbert and Mae (Short) Winter. Ray faithfully served his country in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Devens in Devens, MA during the Vietnam War. He returned to Carmi and married Connie Frymire on December 30, 1974. Ray farmed along side his father and operated Winter Star Farms. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Elks, NRA, White County Farm Bureau and the Illinois Rifle Association. Ray was an avid outdoorsmen, and enjoyed hunting and fishing, even working as a commercial fisherman. He loved to read and work in his garden raising watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes and fruit trees.
Ray is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie; three children, Shawn Winter of Jacksonville, FL, Jason (Amanda) Winter of Carmi and Joey (Angela) Winter of Carmi; three grandchildren, Colt and Case Winter and Callie Winter; and numerous cousins, including Dennis Winter, Tim Jones, David Daniel and Larry Daniel.
Funeral services for Ray W. Winter, 78, of Carmi will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with full military rites by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Private Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, and from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday, May 10, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray's memory to the American Cancer Society or the donor's favorite charity and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
