Ray E. "Buck" Robertson, Jr., 77, of Carmi passed away at 10:05 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Phoenix Rehab and Nursing in Carmi. He was born July 27, 1936 in Golconda, Illinois, the son of Ray Elmer and May (Rexer) Robertson. Buck married Louise Foley on December 19, 1954 and she preceded him in death on February 10, 2013. He attended North Carmi General Baptist Church (Mick Chapel) until its closing and was presently a member of Plainview General Baptist Church. Buck was a oil producer and had worked for DiKor in Carmi and General Drilling in Indianapolis. He was known to his family as the "fix it guy" and always had a solution for everything. Buck had a joke for any occasion. The joy of his life was his family and having them there. Buck and Louise's "little farm" was a favorite gathering spot for their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Buck loved to say "We aren't building a fancy house, but we're raising kids and horses."
Buck is survived by a daughter, Sherry Gholson and her husband, Tim of Carmi; a son, Steven Robertson and his partner, Jim Tharp of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, Eric Gholson and his wife, Krystal of Carmi and Erin Morrison and her husband, Jody of Enfield; three great-grandchildren, Reece and Hallie Gholson and River Morrison; his mother-in-law, Mary Foley of Enfield; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Medlin and her husband, Lawrence and Shirley Smith and her husband, Don all of Enfield and Susan Pearson and her husband, Bruce of Springfield; a brother-in-law, Guy Abbey and his wife Alice; and numerous nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Francis Abbey.
Funeral services for Ray E. "Buck" Robertson, Jr., 77, of Carmi, will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with Tim Gholson officiating. Burial will be in Kitty Sweetin Cemetery near Springerton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Memorial gifts may be given in Buck's name to Phoenix Rehab and Nursing Center in Carmi and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
