Phyllis Woods

Phyllis A. Woods, 83, of Mt. Vernon, died Sunday morning, August 16, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born on March 30, 1932 in New Harmony, the daughter of Loren and Lela (Snyder) Cato. She married Robert G. Woods on August 3, 1951 and he preceded her in death on January 27, 2004.
Mrs. Woods was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a member of Owen Dunn American Legion Post #5 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by sons, Darrell G. (Cyndi) Woods of Mt. Vernon and Timothy A. (partner Curtis Comer) Woods of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Louise (Roger) Webber of Mt. Vernon and Teresa (Michael) Groeninger of Evansville; 5 grandchildren, Bill (Becky) and Bart (Jerri) Webber, Emily Preske, Brittney (Patrick) Lewis and Caleb Austin Woods; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob and Ryan Webber and Tamrah Glover; her daughter-in-law, Janice Woods of Mt. Vernon; brother, George E. (Mary Lou) Cato of FL; sister, Martha Lou Shelby of New Harmony. She was preceded in death by son, B. Keith Woods and daughter, Rhonda Gumbel; brother, Vertis Alan Cato; and sisters, Elizabeth Pearl Cox, and Helen Leona Brown
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon with John Hilbert officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
