Phillip Coan

Phillip L. Coan, 80 of Newburgh,  IN, passed away Friday October 28, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born September 20, 1936 in Evansville, the son of the late Leo Francis and  Elvora (Mayville) Coan. He was married to Linda L. Hesson Niemeier.

Phillp was a graduate of Spokane Community College LPN program, Kinman Business University with a BA in Business Administration and Accounting. He had worked at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, WA. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea. He was a member of the 21st AAA AW BN, "Quad Lightning" Chapter and attended a reunion in 2012. He was also a lifetime member of Owen Dunn Post #5 in Mt. Vernon, lifetime member of Evansville VFW Post #36, lifetime member of the 25th Division Association; lifetime member of the Diabled American Veterans Chapter, Posey County #36. He was the writer and author of "One Man, Two Lives", published in 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Phyllis Joanne Byrne; brothers, Paul G. Coan and Steven R. Coan; grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Nellie Ayers Limp and Edna Manning. He was preceded in death by daughters, Pamela K Troup and Carrie Ferger, sisters, Nellie E. McBride, Dorothy Mae Sachs and Joyce Ann Blair; and brother, Marion Thomas Coan.

A Celebration of Phillips life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday November 5, 2016 at First  Ave. Presbyterian Church at 418 First Ave., Evansville, IN with Rev. Gene Feagan officiating. An interment will be held at a later date at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Riley Hospital, The American Heart Association or the First Ave First Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank and appreciate the compassion and care that the staff of Deaconess Gateway Hospital has shown Phillips family. The Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt.
