Pete Joseph Gallo, age 91 of Mt. Vernon, IN, died Tuesday morning February 2, 2010 at the Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 18, 1918 in Big Stick, West Virginia, the son of Natale and Rosa (Ecolano) Gallo. He married Thelma Atkinson and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2009.
Pete was an insurance salesman for the Prudential Insurance Company; in 1956 he made Prudential history by becoming the first Mid-America District Agent to achieve million dollar status. He was a member of the Shriners Ainad Temple-A.A.O.N.M.S., The Scottish Rite and Masonic Lodge #24, St. Clair Lodge, Belleville, IL. Pete served with the Army Air-Force and was a Tech Sergeant during WWII.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Mary Gallo of Maryland and Donald and Kathy Franks of Mt. Vernon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Voneida and Ron Salee and Leisa and Darrel Pettyjohn all of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara DiGesualdo. He was preceded in death by one son, John Gallo.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday February 6, 2010 at the Austin~Stendeback Family Funeral Home at 1330 E. 4th St., Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Owen-Dunn Post #5 of Mt. Vernon.
