Peggy Burton

Peggy J. Burton 78 of Carmi, passed away Wednesday morning July 18, 2018 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. She was born October 13, 1939 in Carmi, the daughter of Freeman and Alice (Graves) Holztclaw. She was married to Phillip R. Burton and he preceded her in death.

Peggy had been a cook in the Carmi School System for over 9 years. She enjoyed puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her children, Kathryn Downen of Carmi, Sonia Churchwell of New Harmony, IN and Randall Downen of Coalhill, AR; grandchildren, Ryan (Tina) Holtzclaw, Brian Downen, Nathan Downen, Stacy, Casey (Tammy) Coale, Bobby Hancock, Jeremiah (Lacy) Downen, Charity (Tim) Arnold, Allen (Joy) Smith and Adam Prince; 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Norma Nelson and Connie Lambdin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Holtzclaw.
