Paul E. Ogles, 87, of Mt. Vernon, died, at 5:00 AM, Monday, July 11, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. Paul was born January 19, 1918, in Marissa, IL, son of Virgil and Bess (Williams) Ogles. Paul was a Pilot with the Army Air corps in the Pacific during WW II and held the rank of Lieutenant. He attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL and graduated from the University of Tennessee. Paul was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, Masonic Lodge and Shrine. Paul retired from Mead Johnson where he was an Antibiotic Specialist and Assistant Director of the Medical Division. He had worked as a Scientist specializing in antibiotics with the FDA in Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Terry and Gilbert Ogles and sisters Thelma Cox, Blanche Wyllie, Beulah Wiley and Maxine Kemper.
Paul is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha (Stallings) Ogles of Mt Vernon, IN; his son, Paul E. Ogles, Jr. and his wife Aurelia of Leesburg, FL; daughters, Dr. Nancy Ogles Johnson and her husband Russ of Vero Beach, FL and Rebecca Ann Tanton and her husband Wayne of Tampa, FL; sisters, Jeanette Ogles and Betty Harmon of Swansea, IL and Virginia Ogles of Sparta, IL; his sister in law, Ruth Ogles of Fairview Heights, IL; his grandchildren, Keith Johnson, Kyle Wille, Jacob Ogles, Kendal Beatty, Tonya Gray, Kristin Tanton, Brigham Tanton and Sarah Tanton; 8 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 13, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church, 601 Main Street, Mt. Vernon, IN, with Rev. Ed Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 PM at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street, Mt. Vernon, and on Thursday, from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the church or Mt. Vernon Band Boosters.
