Paul L. Collier, 80 of Mt. Vernon, IN died Wednesday afternoon, July 15, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on September 3, 1928 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Guy and Esther (Kitchell) Collier.
Mr. Collier is a World War II Army Veteran, having served in Germany and Japan. After his discharge from the Army, he worked at the Pentagon in the Central Intelligence Department. Upon his return to Mt. Vernon he was a policeman for the Mt. Vernon Police Dept. He retired after 33 years from the Dept. of Natural Resources as a Conservation Officer. He was a member of the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5 in Mt. Vernon and belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #133.
He is survived by his companion of 32 years, Doris Yeida; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Camilla Collier of Winslow, IN; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Rick Maddox of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Nell Willochell of Greensburg, PA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Merle Collier and one sister, Annadell Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Black Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Owen Dunn Post #5.
