Longtime Enfield businessman, Oscar Funkhouser, 91, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at 3:40 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. Oscar was born on August 30, 1921 in Mill Shoals, IL the son of Charles Snowden and Lena (Bowes) Funkhouser. He married Lois M. Bolerjack in 1941. Oscar owned and operated The Food Shoppe in Enfield from 1949 to 2007. He was World War II Army Veteran serving in the South Pacific where he received two Purple Hearts. Oscar was a member of Enfield United Methodist Church, VFW and American Legion. He also served as the Enfield City Treasurer for many years.

Oscar is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lois of Enfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Carl and Kathy Funkhouser of Carmi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Emma Louise Toombs, Wilma Puckett, Helen Hendrey and Clara Funkhouser and five brothers, Olin, Robert Earl, Edward, Willis and Clyde Funkhouser.

Funeral Services for Oscar Funkhouser, 91, of Enfield will be Sunday, December 30, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Enfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Enfield Cemetery. Friends may call at Enfield United Methodist Church on Sunday after 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial Contributions may be made to Enfield United Methodist Church in Oscar's name and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
